Cal Swimming Hires Lewis and Dols as Assistant Coaches
The University of California swimming and diving program has appointed Brody Lewis and Keanan Dols as new assistant coaches, adding experience from Utah

The University of California's swimming and diving program has added two new assistant coaches. Director of Swimming and Diving David Durden announced the hiring of Brody Lewis and Keanan Dols to the Golden Bears staff.
Brody Lewis joins Cal after four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Utah. During his tenure with the Utes, he coached or recruited more than half of the men's program's top-ten all-time performers. His work there also contributed to one NCAA All-American, three Pac-12 podium finishes, 24 Big-12 podium finishes, and 12 school records. Before Utah, Lewis spent a season at the University of Northern Colorado, where the women's team broke 16 school records.
"I am excited to welcome Brody to our staff," Durden said in the official announcement. "He brings an excellent educational background and valuable on-deck experience that will allow him to make an immediate impact on our program." Lewis is a former Utah swimmer himself. He qualified for the Pac-12 Championships all four years and was an NCAA B Cut qualifier in 2017, 2018, and 2020. He also qualified for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events.
Keanan Dols Brings Olympic Pedigree
Keanan Dols arrives in Berkeley following three seasons as an assistant coach at Villanova University. There, he helped the women's program win its 13th consecutive Big East championship in 2026, setting a conference record for points scored. The men's team under his guidance broke 10 program records and posted its highest conference scoring total since 2021. Dols previously served as a volunteer coach at the University of Kentucky.
His athletic career provides a distinct perspective. Dols competed in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, representing Jamaica in the 200-meter butterfly and 200 individual medley. He holds eight Jamaican Senior National Records and swam for the national team from 2015 to 2023, also competing in four World Championships. He swam collegiately for the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Kentucky.
Durden highlighted Dols's unique background. "His experience as an athlete, combined with his transition to the coaching deck, gives him a valuable perspective on athlete development and the sport," Durden stated.
Staff Focused on LA 2028
The new hires complete the coaching staff alongside associate head coach Noah Yanchulis and assistant coach Maya Geringer. In the announcement, Durden connected the appointments directly to the upcoming Olympic cycle. "Adding Keanan and Brody to our staff... Puts us in a great position as we look ahead to LA 2028," he said. Durden expressed confidence in the collective experience and energy of the group.
Both coaches shared their enthusiasm for the new roles. "I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to join the Cal swimming and diving program," Lewis said. Dols echoed the sentiment, stating, "I am extremely excited to be joining the staff at Cal as an assistant coach." He noted he feels honored to join a program with such a rich history.
The University of California's athletic department published the news on its official website, CalBears.com.
