Avery Hogue Verbally Commits to Penn State for 2028
Missouri state champion Avery Hogue has given a verbal commitment to join Penn State University's swimming program in the fall of 2028.

Junior National qualifier Avery Hogue has announced her verbal commitment to Penn State University. The Gladstone, Missouri, native will join the Nittany Lions' swimming program in the fall of 2028.
Hogue, who trains year-round with Club North Swimming, is a multi-event specialist. She excels in freestyle, individual medley, and butterfly disciplines. Regarding her commitment, she said, "I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Penn State University!!"
Recent Competitive Performances
Her recent competition schedule has been busy. Hogue most recently raced at the Madison Futures meet last month, where she reached finals in five events. This followed a seventh-place finish in the 800-meter freestyle at the Columbia Speedo Sectionals in July.
In December, she competed in three events at the Juniors West meet. She then placed fifth in both the 500-yard freestyle and 1000-yard freestyle at the Columbia Speedo Sectionals in March.
High School Career and State Success
Currently a junior at Park Hill South High School, Hogue is a Missouri state champion. At the 2026 Missouri Class 2 State Championships, she won the 200-yard individual medley and took third in the 500-yard freestyle. She also swam on the winning 4x50-yard freestyle relay team.
Her efforts helped lead Park Hill South to its third consecutive state team title in 2026. As a freshman, she placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle. She was also part of two victorious relay teams that year.
Event Rankings and Potential Impact
Hogue's personal best times would have placed her highly on the Penn State roster last season. According to Swimming World Magazine, her top time in the 200-yard butterfly would have ranked second among Nittany Lions swimmers. Her best times in the 400-yard individual medley, 500-yard freestyle, and 1000-yard freestyle would each have ranked third on the team.
Penn State's women's team finished 13th at the 2026 Big Ten Championships. Hogue thanked her coaches and family for their support, specifically mentioning Club North coach Nate and the Penn State staff of Hollie, Tommy, and Mike. She concluded her announcement by stating she is "so excited to see what the future holds" for her in State College.
